February 20-24, 2017
I am looking forward to the students' presentations on their penguin reports. The students have shown great enthusiasm while studying the penguins! They have enjoyed reading all of the books we have on the subject and viewing the videos, too.
Our anthology story this week is Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend. The parent reading letter with the main concepts and vocabulary words will be sent home on Tuesday. The reading and spelling tests will be given on Friday. Our grammar skills will include identifying and using adjectives correctly.
In math, they will be learning the minus 4 and 5 facts; subtracting 2-digit numbers; and using money while problem solving . Please continue working on the facts. I am still observing some of the kids counting on fingers or using the 100 chart.
In Session 17 of religion, we will review our study of the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. The assessment will be given on Thursday. We will discuss how to get ready for the Lenten season, also.
Some of the second graders will be participating in the Mass on Wednesday. You are always welcome to attend the school Mass at 9:15 on Wednesdays.
We our continuing our work on the unit about Presidents Lincoln and Washington in social studies.
In Chapter 5 of science, they will learn about the importance of our natural resources. The students will have a quiz after studying each lesson.
It would be greatly appreciated if each family would send 1 box of Kleenex.
The flu and bad colds really hit our class recently. We were going through 3 boxes a day!! Yikes!!
Thank you for your cooperation and support!
