This week we will be reading the story, Jellies: The Life of a Jellyfish. Your child will bring home their book on Monday and Thursday nights to reread the story with you. As you read the story with your child, ask them questions about the story. This will help them with their comprehension and understanding of the story. Please go over the vocabulary words with them as well, as this will help them on their test on Thursday. Our phonics skill this week will be Contractions. Our grammar skill will be Verbs: Present, Past, and Future.

Extra Vocabulary Words-
marine- the word marine describes anything that is related to the sea
defense- a defense is a way a living thing or a group protects itself from attack
diverse- diverse means not alike, or different
Our vocabulary strategy this week will be Base Words and Suffixes -er, -est.
We are starting this week off with Lesson 39. There will be a test over what we have been working on every 5 lessons. The content will be over what we have learned in class and what they have been doing on their homework assignments. They will have homework every night in math.
So far, in math, we have learned/reviewed:

Time to the Hour and 1/2 hour
Adding 0 and 1
We will be starting Session 8, Jesus Calls Us to Love. In this lesson we will learning how Jesus used parables to teach lessons about how to be closer to God. We will learn that Peter was the Church's first leader and we will be talking about our leaders; the pope and our bishop. The Session 8 Assessment will be Friday, October 25th.
We will be continuing Ch. 2, People, Places, and Nature this week. This week we will be reading Lesson 2, which is on earth's land and water. We will be talking about landforms, bodies of water, and looking at a map of North America.
Our fourth topic that we are going to be learning about is Using Liquids and Gases. During this lesson, your child will investigate how the properties of some liquids and gases make them useful. We will be talking about the shapes of liquids and gases and the different states of matter. We will be measuring liquids and how we uses liquids and gases in our everyday life.
