Welcome to Our 3th Grade Class
Hello & Welcome 2020-2021 3rd Grade Class!
Hello! My name is Brenda Hartman and I am thrilled to be teaching 3rd grade at Trinity Catholic Academy this year. I've been married for 22 years to Bryan who is a helicopter mechanic for OSF LifeFlight at the Peru, IL base. We have two boys, Colin who is currently training in the United States Air Force to work as a Tactical Aircraft Maintainer, commonly known as a "Crew Chief" for the fighter jet called the F-35 Lightning II. Our youngest son, Ryan is a Junior at LaSalle Peru High School this year. He has been a part of LP's cross country and track teams during his Freshmen & Sophomore years.
I have been working in education for over 15 years as a substitute teacher, teacher's aide, librarian's assistant and parent volunteer. I returned to school when our youngest was in preschool and obtained my teaching certificate from Western Governors University. I look forward to helping my students grow closer to God as we integrate Biblical principles into every subject area and follow TCA's Mission: "To provide a quality education in the Roman Catholic tradition to students of all faiths through development of spirit, mind, and body, helping each student develop a personal relationship with God and a commitment to serving others."

The subjects that 3rd grade will be studying this year include:
Religion, Math, Reading, Writing, Language arts, Spelling, Social Studies & Science
All school mass starts at 9:15. Shorts cannot be worn on school mass days, BUT students may bring shorts to change into if the weather isn’t conducive to wearing long pants all day.
Assessments: Religion quizzes will be after each section (which will last a couple of days each) and the tests will be after each unit (every 8-10 days). Math will consist of daily work (in their math notebook) after each lesson (they will usually be given time to work on this in class & bring home whatever is left) and tests after each section (the first section is longer so it will be closer to 10 days so I’ll put a quiz in the middle to keep it fresh. After this, section tests will be closer to once a week. Spelling tests will be weekly, with a pre-test on Thursday and for those students who don’t 100%, a test on Friday. Reading and vocabulary grades will be a mixture of in-class workbook grades, quizzes and Unit tests. Social Studies Quizzes on vocabulary words will be weekly so it stays fresh in their minds and Chapter tests will be once every 2 weeks. Science vocabulary quizzes will be weekly and Chapter tests will be once every 2 weeks. There will be project and participation grades also included throughout the year.
Assignments: Daily assignments will be posted on the white board, so students can write them in their planners throughout the day. If you ever have any questions, please email me at email@example.com.
Homework Policy: I will make sure students know which assignments are to be written in their planners to be completed at home. I have a homework “turn in” tray and will remind the students when assignments need to be turned in. If students are consistently struggling to turn homework in on time, I will set up a time to talk (either over the phone and or in person; whichever works out best for you) to parents/guardians about what we need to do to get the students homework in on time.
