We are a Sacramental People – God comes to us in real and sacred ways. We’ve been without the sacraments, especially the sacraments of Frequent Reception, the Sacraments that keep us going spiritually: Confession of the Sins, and the Holy Eucharist. A few weeks ago we were able to begin offering Confession in an outdoor confessional. Now we are excited to begin Brief Holy Communion services and eventually perhaps even Holy Mass also in the relative safer outdoor environment.
The brief Holy Communion services is offered at 10am on Sunday mornings. Of course, weather is a factor and we will announce if there is a change at the Mass and on the website.
The Communion service will happen in blacktop parking lot directly in front of St. Patrick Church. Enter on the South end of the Lot, across from the Library. Look for the Vatican Flags that mark the entrance. Once in the lot, drive forward in one of the nine lanes marked in blue paint. Drive all the way up following the arrows until you reach the yellow and white lines before the fence. Larger or taller vehicles, please park on Marquette street or in a side lane. We might not always have a good view. But that is okay.
Please come early, to allow time to get parked and ready for prayer. Tune your radio to our FM frequency to hear the service: 105.1 FM. When it is time for Communion the priests will come to your car. They will have liquid sanitizer to regularly purify their fingers. Please offer your “Amen” quietly to avoid speaking over the ciborium of hosts that are being taken to other cars. After everyone has received Communion, there will be a final prayer and blessing. Cars will leave the lot in an orderly way through the North exit, beginning with the column to the East. Please allow the lane to your right to completely empty before moving towards the exit. Let’s not be in a hurry, this is a time to be with the Lord we have just received.

Come and join us for the Illinois Valley Corpus Christi Procession on June 6th in LaSalle. We will begin after a bilingual Mass at St. Hyacinth at 12:15pm, and the procession will begin about 1:15pm. Following Mass and Benediction at St. Hyacinth, we will begin a procession to St. Patrick. After Benediction at the porch of St. Patrick, we will continue the procession to Holy Rosary Shrine for the third Benediction. If you are unable to come for the noon Mass, simply come to St. Hyacinth Parish a little before 1:15pm. If you don’t think you are able to walk the full route, drive to St. Patrick Church at 1:15pm, and join us there for the procession to Holy Rosary.
Parish Organizations will have their banners, and First Communicants are encouraged to wear their suits and dresses. Wagons and strollers are certainly welcome and appropriate! Refreshments and lunch will be available at the St. Patrick parking lot after the procession. In case of rain, we will process inside St. Hyacinth.
Processions are an important tradition in our Faith. That is why Mass always begins with a procession. It reminds us that as Christians we have a purpose, we have a destination, and that we are all on a pilgrimage through this life. Don’t miss our procession this year!

The Illinois Valley Loves Life!
Due to the icy weather, the Illinois Valley contingent of the 2020 Chicago March for Life did not make it to the event, but bus trip organizer Andy Wujek from the Mendota Knights of Columbus worked with Fr. Tom Otto to provide a beautiful impromptu prayer service and Mass last Saturday morning at St. Hyacinth Church in LaSalle for those in the area who could make it. It was so wonderful to be together for LIFE! See you next year on the bus!

March 28th - Message from Bishop Jenky
March 21st - Message from Bishop Jenky
MARCH 21st UPDATE: Churches must be locked during Shelter-In-Place
Pursuant to the Governor’s Shelter-In-Place Order for the State of Illinois, beginning at 5PM on Saturday, March 21, and continuing through April 7:
• All churches and chapels must be closed and locked until the Governor’s order is lifted.
• Instances of priests traveling to religious houses for Mass will be discontinued until the Governor’s Order is lifted.
• All weddings and baptisms must be postponed and can be re-scheduled only once the Order is lifted. The only exception to this will be in the case of a true emergency.
• Funerals and wakes are not permitted at this time. Only Burials with the Rite of Committal will continue to take place, as per the previous Directives, though they must be entirely outdoors.
• Parish offices are to remain closed. That stated, each Pastor and his staff must identify the essential functions that need to continue. It is our expectation that parish staff work from home and will not have any extended time whatsoever in the parish office.
• Decisions regarding social outreach programs will be made on a case-by-case basis. Contact the Vicar General for direction in specific cases.

LaSalle Parishes Coronavirus Precautions
Our plan to break the chain of Coronavirus transmission
Prayer and Intercession
During this time, we remember how fragile our lives on earth can be. The unexpected pandemic of the Coronavirus reminds us that certainty is not found in this world. Let us pray for those who are sick and those who are afraid. Let us also pray for all health care providers, for their strength, and for their safety.
Finally, we pray for all those whose work and livelihoods have been disrupted and endangered by this outbreak. During this season of Lent, perhaps we could each choose an additional penance to offer in solidarity with those who are suffering. Please pause at the end of this message to pray the prayer offered by Pope Francis for our present situation.
Local Precautions
The Coronavirus spreads like other flu-type illnesses. We need to break the chain of contamination. A considerable part of this, as we all know, involves an increased concern toward hygiene. It also means avoiding all unnecessary gatherings of people. We will be canceling or postponing all parish events and classes for the time being. This will include Adoration at Holy Rosary and the Stations of the Cross. Trinity Academy will announce adjustments to our class schedule for next week. RE classes will be canceled until further notice.
All Masses will continued to be offered, even when the Govenor's orders do not allow the doors to be unlocked. Bishop Jenky has, of course, temporarily lifted the obligation for Catholics to attend Mass on Sunday. Please read the Bishop's letter, available here.
Our Parishes
While we expect this trial to be temporary and hope that it be brief, we do need to hold one another in prayer. While we cannot come together physically, let's make this a time of increased spiritual closeness. Please visit the parish website for any additional announcements regarding our plans and schedules. Our office will need to be closed, but please still call or email if should should need to reach out.

Pope Francis' Prayer for
Rome and the World O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. |
Communion and Confession
Probably the most difficult part of our current situation is our inability to receive the Holy Eucharist or make a Sacramental Confession. In these occasions, we should make an Act of Spiritual Communion and an Act of Perfect Contrition. These are spiritual “Acts” spiritual actions we make in cooperation of Divine Grace. In our Spiritual Communion we join our hearts to the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. In our act of Perfect Contrition we express sorrow that arises from an authentic love of God beyond all else. According to the Catechism , this act can obtain the forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to make a Sacramental Confession when possible (CCC #1452).
An Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. |
An Act of Perfect Contrition
O my God, I am hearty sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen. |

Update: Bishop Jenky Suspends all Public Masses
LaSalle Churches will be open for private prayer
In accord with his brother bishops in the State of IL, and due to concerns about the potential impact of the Coronavirus, Bishop Jenky has suspended all Public Masses and Worship in the Diocese of Peoria. This includes, of course, a dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass for the time being. (Please see the Bishop's most recent letter here.)
Churches are Open
All three of our churches in LaSalle will be open for private prayer from dawn to dusk on Saturday and Sunday, and Holy Rosary Shrine will be open from dawn to dusk for private prayer on all weekdays. If prudence allows, please feel free to make a visit to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle. Please avoid gathering in groups.
Sacramental Confession is Available
Confessions will continue as scheduled. Please use prudence if deciding to come for Confession.
Confessions:
Saturday at St. Hyacinth 3pm
Monday at Holy Rosary 4:30pm
Wednesday at Holy Rosasry 7pm
Friday at Holy Rosary at 5:30pm and 7pm
Masses on TV and the Internet
Scheduled Mass Intentions will be offered by our priests in private Masses, some of which will be live-streamed and archived for viewing over social media (via the LaSalle Catholic Parishes Facebook page). EWTN offers Live Masses at 9am each day with a rebroadcast at 9pm. Viewing the Mass Live (via LaSalle Parishes Facebook or EWTN) would be preferred to a recording, if possible. Please don't just "watch" the Mass as we would other programs on TV. Pray, participate, and make a Spiritual Communion. Physical distances do not need to be spiritual distances.
Check Back
Please return to the parish website often for further updates. These dramatic measures are taken out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of all, but especially the elderly, infirm, and all those most vulnerable. Let's do our very best to break the chain of contamination!
Please continue to pray and persevere in your Lenten practices! We unite all our sacrifices and inconveniences both large and small to the Cross of Our LORD, trusting in His merciful protection.
